Der Spreewald, im Osten Deutschlands gelegen, ist ein geschütztes Biosphärenreservat und ein in Europa einzigartiges Binnendelta. Er ist ein Labyrinth von stillen Wasserläufen und Seen. Manche Ortschaften sind dort bis heute nur mit dem Kahn erreichbar.
Die Dokumentation "Spreewald - Labyrinth des Wassermanns" führt in die historische Kulturlandschaft im Südosten Brandenburgs. Ein Kahnfahrer stellt mit seinem Holzboot das Flussgebiet vor und treibt durch die "Fließe" genannten Kanäle. Dabei trifft er auf die dort lebenden Sorben, eine slawische Minderheit. Sie haben eine lebendige, eigene Kultur mit farbenfrohen Festen und Bräuchen.
